Active Steward Ltd develops the Active Steward™ platform and hosts regulatory databases and systems required by companies to comply with regulatory requirements worldwide.

Active Steward Ltd has offices in Brussels, Belgium and in South Oxfordshire, UK.

The Role

Active Steward Ltd requires a Linux Systems Administrator or Devops Engineer with a passion for systems, security, and best-practice, capable of maintaining solid documentation.

The permanent role will be flexible and will adapt to the skills of the job holder allowing significant scope for further development arising from the growth of the business.

Expert knowledge of:

  • Linux Server and the CLI (preferably Ubuntu Server)

Working knowledge of:

  • Config. management (bonus: Puppet)
  • GIT
  • JVM hosting with Glassfish/Payara
  • Scripting and automation (bash, python, SQL)
  • Build pipeline management (GIT, Jenkins, Maven, Glassfish/Payara)
  • Databases and SQL (bonus: Derby/JavaDB, also Liquibase)
  • Monitoring (preferably Nagios)
  • Internet infrastructure and technologies (DNS, iptables)
  • Secure communication protocols (TLS, SSH, x509, VPN)
  • APT, DPKG, Linux boot process, and service management

Special Features

The successful applicant will bridge the IT and Development teams and occasionally help with less specialist IT activities for the wider company.

The jobholder will interact with the Penman Consulting staff on the regulatory systems and processes managed on their behalf  and will travel to our Brussels office 2 or 3 times per year.

We offer a pleasant, modern working environment in a fascinating industry. There’s no pager duty and out-of-hours calls are extremely rare. The server environment is almost exclusively VMs so there’s no server hardware to nurse.

Target Start date: October / November 2018

We wish to ensure a handover from the current Systems Administrator.
